The most popular place to dive in Lake Huron is Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This dive site, also known as “shipwreck alley,” has 100 historic shipwrecks that date back to 1844; the wrecks you can find here can go from only a few inches of water to over 200 feet (61 meters) deep. Some of the best and most interesting shipwrecks you can explore are the mostly intact Pewabic, and Montana, which is a 235 feet (72 meter) steamer. The DeTour Passage Underwater Preserve is another great dive site with 19 wrecks that shit in shallow water; this site is perfect for divers of all levels and is well known for its shore diving. The Sainte Marie is a unique ship with a portion of it sitting above the water.
