Art under water in the Gulf of Mexico

The first underwater museum in the USA opened off the coast of Florida

In late June 2018, a submarine sculpture park was opened in Florida. The new Underwater Museum of Art (UMA) is located in 18 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico, the entrance is free.

Divers can explore sculptures in the museum off Walton County which will serve as a habitat for fish, and where corals and shells can settle. The museum was founded by art and environmental organizations in the region. According to the operator, it is the first permanent underwater sculpture exhibition in the United States.

Admission is free. Any diver who wants to visit the museum can take a boat and drive to the appropriate coordinates where he can dive without any entrance fees. The diving visitors will see seven sculptures by American artists. Every year new sculptures will be added. The Museum in Florida is not the only one of its kind in the world. You can also dive to art at the bottom of the sea, for example to the Museo Atlantico in Lanzarote.
