The Asahi 16, a gravel transport ship, rests split in half underwater, a notable shipwreck in Japan. Its large hull emerges unexpectedly in sandy surroundings, becoming a thriving fish habitat. Near the bow, a winch attracts colorful fish, while descent ropes at both ends offer unique wreck diving experiences.

Located near Atami’s wreck, this dive site has fixed buoys with depths from 18-20m below the buoy. West side (No.1 root) stays ~20m deep; east side (No.2 root) deepens to 30m. Strong currents, rich fish schools, and varied terrain make it popular.

This is a historic dive site that represents Higashi-Izu. It can be accessed from the Tokyo area in about 2 hours, and it is also possible to take a day trip, making it a popular spot, especially among Kanto divers.

Kosoga Cave in Atami, Shizuoka, is open Nov–Apr and features a 40m semi-enclosed cave at 6–12m depth, ideal for beginners. Its wide space and open ceiling let sunlight create a stunning blue gradation. Just 10 minutes by boat from Atami Port, it’s both scenic and accessible.

Sodaine is a pinnacle in Atami, Shizuoka, features dynamic terrain with vibrant soft corals. Depths range 15–30m, with schools of snappers at 10–20m. Its sandy southeast slope and northeast drop-off attract topography lovers. Best from fall to winter, when clear waters reveal stunning underwater scenery.

Reopened in 2024, Yugawara Aqua Park in Kanagawa features a 25m pool (6 lanes, 1.1m deep) and a 4.75m diving pool for scuba and freediving. With a gym, studio, and multipurpose space, it’s a hub for locals and divers to train, stay healthy, and build skills.

Located on the west side of the Manazuru Peninsula, it is a popular point that is quite close to the Kanto area. Beach entry and boat entry are available. The beach is home to a colony of coral anemones that have been designated as a natural monument and are surrounded by colorful creatures, including clownfish.

Triangle in Manazuru, Kanagawa, is an artificial reef made from a massive steel frame sunk during Iwa Ohashi Bridge’s construction. The 10m-high, 50m-wide structure teems with fish, from snappers and horse mackerel to colorful soft corals. Suitable for all levels, it offers both macro and wide diving sights.

Enoura, on the west side of Kanagawa in the Nishishon area, is a safe dive site with a sloped entry and guide ropes underwater. With a max depth of 16m, it’s ideal for new divers. Follow the rope to spot a Doraemon statue at 15m. The site is cleaned annually around November.

It is the only inhabited remote island in Shizuoka Prefecture, about 10 km off the coast of Atami, which can be reached in 30 minutes by ferry. After crossing the island, you can go beach diving or boat diving.
