Diving in the North Ari Atoll

The Ari Atoll is considered the number one scuba spot in the Maldives. The northern section offers two very notable diving regions. Maaya Thila is a spectacular and awe-inspiring location with a large cave to explore on the north side with a wide variety of sea creatures. You can find anything you are looking for here though with drop-offs, coral outcrops, and swim-throughs. Also part of the North Ari Atoll is Fish Head, aka, Shark Thilla. It has protected status and is the top place to see sharks in the entire Maldives.

Wildlife in North Ari Atoll

While Fish Head, in North Ari Atoll, may have more sharks, nowhere in the Maldives has bigger sharks then Sun Island. This is where you can have an encounter with an amazing creature, the massive yet docile whale shark. Elsewhere in the area, Broken Rock, Five Rocks, and Kuda Rah Thila are three more well-known dive sites in the South Ari Atoll. From beautiful soft coral reefs to large drop-offs and crevasses, these sites have everything you could want and is why this region ranks so high on divers’ lists.
