Diving in Kärnten

Kärnten (also known as Carinthia) is renowned for being the province with the most lakes. With more than 200, many of them with drinking water quality, Kärnten is indeed an amazing scuba diving paradise for divers in Austria.
Situated in the south-eastern corner of Austria, this is “Austria’s Riviera“ and offers a wonderfully warm scuba diving experience in summer with gin-clear waters, beautiful beaches and scenery that will take your breath away.
Kärnten’s pure and comfortably warm temperature-waters benefit from the many cloudless days and even in winter, some brave divers opt to go ice diving. Of course, if you want warmer waters you need to aim for spring and summer, with the best diving to be enjoyed between May and September.
You have a whole host of lakes to choose from, including Ossiacher See and Weissensee, while Lake Warthersee is among the warmest in the Alps, along with Lake Klopeiner, while Lake Faaker See is the most southerly lake in Austria and is bathed in sunshine in the summer months.
With spectacular scenery, roaring mountain streams and crystal-clear lakes set against stunning peaks, this riviera makes for a truly beautiful dive destination.
