MyDiveGuide’s new features take wildlife sightings and dive site information to the next level

As the diving season kicks off, MyDiveGuide has introduced new features to enhance your diving experience. These features are designed to give divers more insight into the wildlife they may encounter on a dive, provide a better user experience when browsing dive site information, and help users plan their next diving adventure. Let’s take a closer look at what these new functions entail.
Consolidation of Wildlife Sightings
One of the most exciting parts of diving is the opportunity to see a diverse range of wildlife in their natural habitat. MyDiveGuide has consolidated wildlife sightings on a dive site to provide divers with a better idea of what they might encounter on a dive. The new wildlife tables show better representation of possible wildlife sightings through different sized circles and graphs. Users can switch between absolute and relative sighting probabilities compared to complete sightings at the dive site or compared to sightings of a specific animal. Hovering over an animal shows more stats, and a button links to the respective wildlife landing page.
New Calculation Based on Two Factors
MyDiveGuide has introduced a new calculation based on two factors to give divers an even better idea of what they may see on a dive. The calculation takes into account that 10% of divers have seen a particular creature based on the total amount of logged dives, or more than 5 divers have spotted this creature on this site. This new calculation method helps to refine the accuracy of wildlife sightings and gives divers a better idea of what they can expect to see.
Revamped Wildlife Tables
The new wildlife tables on MyDiveGuide have been revamped to provide a better user experience. The first ten rows are dedicated to the top sightings on a dive site, with the top 30 creatures already pre-defined. A load more button enlarges the table to show all sightings at a site. This feature makes it easier for users to quickly see what the most commonly sighted creatures are at a dive site.
Rebrush of Dive Site Pages
MyDiveGuide has given their dive site pages a refresh to provide a more refined look and feel. The new design features share functions (mail, link, WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). The overview of key facts such as the total number of species seen on that site, total number of centers that serve that site, max. depth, and diver level acquired for that site is also now included.
Inline Map
An inline map is now included on dive site pages which shows centers who serve the site and nearby dive sites, using more page width. This feature allows users to easily see the location of dive centers and dive sites in relation to the dive site they are interested in.
Refreshed Dive Site Graphs
MyDiveGuide has also refreshed dive site graphs, including a switch between metric and imperial units of measurement. The graphs now also feature a separate graphic for logged dives, making it easier for users to see their own logged dives in comparison to others.
Wildlife Heat-Maps
The final new function of MyDiveGuide is the introduction of wildlife heat-maps for animal sightings worldwide. With the help of the cleaned-up database and the thousands of entries our users provide, we are able to predict on a monthly basis at which places which creature can be seen. Instead of offering a simple filter, we use interactive heat maps with autoplay function. Users can drill down into the map and switch between dive sites and centers that are affiliated with these sites. We expect this to lead to more engagement on MyDiveGuide, as users will play around with the tool.
