BLACK JACK REEF

Black jack reef is a 2km stretch of reef running between Kuoatunu and Otama beach. Although easily accessible has of late been over run with kina(sea urchins) that have caused a bit of a baron sea floor.

OTAMA REEF

One of the best places for beginner divers, an easy beach to walk in off straight onto bright white sand. as you head out there are small broken reefs, as you move to the left the reefs get bigger and kelpier the further out you go.

THE BOOK CASE - GMI

This site is on the north western side of the great mercury islands. This dive is one for advanced divers, the wall is full of live but can drop on down to 25-30m

SAIL ROCK - GMI

Can have strong currents on the northern side of the rock, Usually very exposed to wind and swell. dives average between 7 to 20m. Easy to navigate.

BRONZIE BAY - GMI

Can be a popular fishing and diving spot on GMI, a lot of boats pass by as well so be wary. always have your dive flag up. Being a popular spot can be under a bit of pressure over summer.

HOME BAY - GMI

The western side of the Great mercury island, also a safe haven for boats to park and stay overnight. The scallop beds have been shut down until at least 2023 due to it being in very poor condition.

THE CATHEDRAL

Northern side of the mercs, is exposed so southerly swell and wind, Cathedral bay itself is an awesome dive site for anyone, rocky reef surrounding the bay with a sandy bottom with broken kelpie reef all throughout in the middle. The pins and outer edges of cathedral have some wicked walls and boulder areas.

sandy bottom with short shallow broken reef, great for lunch or beginners. the sandy bottom offers an excellent opportunity to see rays mooching about.
