Beauty Diving in Phuket Showcases China's Growing Dive Market

Earlier this month, SSI International was proud to join hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Guangzhou Diving Association to launch the "Beauty Diving" initiative in Phuket. From 4–6 September 2025, over 150 passionate divers from China gathered on Thailand's stunning Andaman coast to experience the country's world-class dive sites, connect with the local community, and celebrate the future of sustainable marine tourism.

Why Beauty Diving is Shaping the Future of Sustainable Tourism in Thailand

The three-day program offered an incredible mix of activities—from scuba diving and freediving to the fast-rising trend of mermaiding. For many participants, it was a chance not only to explore vibrant underwater ecosystems, but also to join a meaningful CSR project supporting ocean conservation. 

Together, we demonstrated that diving is more than a sport—it is a way to protect and enjoy our blue planet.

The Beauty Diving initiative in Phuket brought together over 150 divers from China to celebrate Thailand's underwater treasures.

The festivities began with the Amazing Thailand Beauty Diving Welcome Reception at Dusit Thani Laguna Beach Resort, where guests enjoyed a mermaid-themed photo booth, cultural performances, and even an upcycling workshop that turned marine debris into creative souvenirs. 

The atmosphere was electric, as divers shared stories, captured memories, and strengthened bonds that will inspire future trips to Thailand.

For SSI, the event underscored the enormous potential of China's diving market. While global diving certifications grew by 5% in 2018, China surged ahead with a remarkable 40% increase — proof of the country's growing passion for underwater exploration. 

Chinese divers are adventurous, curious, and eager to combine diving with cultural and leisure travel, often staying longer and investing more in experiences. The popularity of mermaid diving among young travelers and influencers further highlights the creative ways this community is redefining the sport.
