Diving in Punta Cana

One of the most popular areas to visit in the Dominican Republic is Punta Cana. Arrive at Punta Cana is by flying to its international airport. Finding accommodation won’t be a problem; you can choose to stay at one of the many luxury and all-inclusive resorts. Diving in Punta Cana is perfect for all levels of divers, from beginners to the most experienced. The Dominican Republic has its largest coral reef located right offshore, from the northwest to the eastern part of the island, making dive sites easily accessible from a short boat ride. Dive along remarkable coral passages and thrilling cavern swim-throughs. Many shipwrecks in this area and some impressive wall dive sites are perfect to be explored by more advanced divers. Some of the shipwrecks you can’t miss are Astron Wreck and Monica Wreck. In the summer, many tropical storms can reduce visibility during hurricane season. The best time to visit is between October and May when you will have high visibility, up to 30m/100 feet deep, to admire the beautiful underwater life. Dive into the waters of Punta Cana and feel amazed as you encounter nurse sharks and humpback whales. Don’t forget to visit the Igneri Caribe Taino Underwater Museum, which is a hidden diving gem and a unique cultural site, perfect even for beginner divers.
