The Campania region, also known as the Neapolitan region, is an area located in southern Italy, on the west coast on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The region is fringed by beautiful beaches and is dotted with two islands, Capri and Phlegraean and is even home to an underwater archeological park, where you can explore the submerged city of Baiae, once a buzzing resort town until volcanic activity sent it to the sea bed.

You’ll love diving in these waters filled with marine life as well as exploring the caves, canyons and vertical walls that make the underwater geology so interesting. There are also whole protected marine areas where marine life thrives. Disturbing plant and animal species in places such as Neptune’s Kingdom – known as Area Marina Protteta Regno di Nettuno in Italian – is prohibited so it is a great place to see the undisturbed underwater life.

Try diving Gaiola, where you can explore the ruins of Roman villas lost to the sea and there are even intricate mosaics that still survive along with classical statues.
