U1021

SS Tagona (1908-1918) was a defensively armed Canadian merchant steamer. Torpedoed on 16th May 1918 by German submarine U-55 when 5 miles WSW of Trevose Head on passage from Bilbao to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore. The Captain and seven of the crew were lost.

SS Hugin (1889-1918) was a Swedish cargo steamer, en route to Liverpool. She was carrying a cargo of woodpile and timber when she was torpedoed 4.5 miles from St. Agnes, by German submarine U-60. None of the crew were lost. She now sits at 35m-40m on the seabed.

SS Lake Edon (1918-1918) was an American cargo ship, loaded with coal and on voyage from Barry, Wales. She was torpedoed by German submarine U-107, 4 miles NE of Towan Headland, Newquay. 18 men were lost. The wreck now sits at 35m-40m.

SS Σιρακούζα 1879-1897. 36m μέγιστο βάθος. Χτισμένο ως SS Bavaria, στη συνέχεια μετονομάστηκε σε SS Siracusa ήταν ένα ατμόπλοιο που φρόντιζε ένα φορτίο άνθρακα. Όταν περνούσε από το Νιούκουεϊ, παγιδεύτηκε σε μια καταιγίδα, και στη συνέχεια ναυάγησε στα ανοικτά του Towan Headland.

Little Fistral is off the western side of Towan Headland and is a shallow reef site with a sandy bottom - perfect for entry-level training and snorkelling. Some interesting rock formations and swim throughs can be found.

The Gazzle lies within the Newquay Bay & Gannel Marine Conservation Zone. It is shallow shore dive, max depth - 10m on a high tide. Gradually deepening sandy slope with kelpy reef and an abundance of marine life. Gazzle (North) - Kelp/rocky reef, caverns. Gazzle (South) - Kelp/rocky reef, caverns, old slipway.

Dane Rock is located just around the corner from Newquay Harbour. It is a shallow reef site with a maximum depth of 8m. An ideal site for entry-level diver training

SS Orfordness (1906-1918) was a British merchant ship. Whilst on route from Rouen to Barry Roads, she was torpedoed by German submarine U-60, two and a half miles NW of Newquay. 2 men were lost. She now lies on the bottom in about 35m-40m depending on the tide state.

Goose Rock is a kelp/rocky reef only accessible by boat. An ideal site for entry-level training as the maximum depth is between 8-10m. For the more experienced diver, small caverns and more depth can be found on the western side of the rock.

Lewinnick Reef boarders the coast on top of which sits Lewinnick Lodge. Maxing out at a depth of 10m makes it a perfect site for training. It also has some interesting topographical features including gullies and swim-throughs!
